About Us
Thank you for being here! My name is Lael Horst, and I am a dahlia hobbyist and collector. I have a regular 8-5 job, and grow dahlias in my spare time. I couldn't grow as many as I do without my wonderful part-time helper Brooke, who comes twice a week to cut stems, spray, weed, plant, dig, or whatever task is needed. Because this is a hobby for me, this is my first year dipping my toe into selling on a website. I am not a full time business, so replies to messages may not be immediate, but I will do my best to provide good customer service.
Here's a little about my journey into dahlias. I have been growing dahlias since 2021. What started as a few dahlias in my duplexes backyard has grown into a bit of an addiction. I bought a house on a half acre lot in 2023, and in 2024, I grew around 500 dahlias on my new property. That number quickly doubled in 2025 to over 1,000 varieties, and 2026 is looking like it will be even more beautiful! I am located on a very busy road, and since my dahlias are in my front yard, they get a lot of exposure. I love the joy that they bring to my neighbors and all those driving by. I sell cut flower bundles at my roadside stand, as well as at a local orchard farm market. I've recently dabbled in selling stems to a wedding florist and hope to expand that market this year.
As we continue to learn more about dahlias and disease, we continue to put measures into place to do our part to limit the spread of virus and disease. My garden helper and I are both very conscientious in sanitizing our snips with a bleach solution between plants when harvesting, cutting down, and dividing. We pull visually virused plants and do our best to keep the bugs and powdery mildew to a minimum by spraying and by stripping bottom foliage. Each year, we learn more as we grow, and strive to better the next year. May 2026 be a wonderful growing year for us all!
